Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is a small country on the west coast of Sierra Leone between Liberia and Guinea. Sierra Leone has a population estimated at 6.5 million. This population may have changed quite a bit over the last 15 years as the country was in a civil war. It is a former British Colony that was first colonized by the French. Many in the country still speak French due to that. The country has distinct seasons, one being the rainy season in which it rains at least once nearly every day during that time frame. Although Freetown is the capital and the largest city, there are many other major cities that thrive: Bo, Kenema, Koidu Town and Makeni. Because it was an English colony, English is the official language. Krio which is a sort of “broken English” is spoken throughout the country. This language enables those of different tribes to communicate freely. Sierra Leone is most known for its Diamond Mining.
